A Lasting Legacy

Debbie (Courtney) Brigner, ’75 alumna

During their formative college years, many students meet at least one faculty member who inspires, supports, mentors, or guides them. Debbie (Courtney) Brigner was fortunate enough to have two.

“Doctors Maxine Huffman and Dave Jolliff were terrific instructors!” she says.

Dr. Huffman taught in the education department for 28 years, specializing in courses in reading and literacy development for teachers. During her time at IPFW, she assisted approximately 8,000 beginning and experienced teachers in learning how to teach young children to read. She also developed the Summer Reading Clinic. Dr. Jolliff is still employed at IPFW in the Department of Professional Studies and is active with the Indiana Center for Middle East Peace.

Brigner credits those teachers and IPFW’s proximity to her success: “Thanks to IPFW I was able to complete my BS in Education and be near my family.”
