Service With a Smile

Marlylynn Holderread, parent

While IPFW provides numerous opportunities to get involved in university life, it also allows students to make a difference in the surrounding community. Each year, Student Life presents the Community Service Fair, where students can learn about Fort Wayne nonprofit groups and how to volunteer.

In addition, The BIG Event allows students to network with fellow Mastodons by taking one day to perform service at various agencies in the area. The BIG Event, now in its third year, has successfully allowed students the opportunity to give back to their community.

Parent Marlylynn Holderread, whose daughter is currently enrolled at IPFW, is not surprised by the giving nature: “My daughter fell in love with the close-knit campus and the IPFW student housing. IPFW also offers many clubs and opportunities to continue her interests, such as swing choir and volunteer opportunities. I’m so glad she has created new friendships and is enjoying her college experience.”
